100 Geniuses Project – Part 1/100: Enrique

Hace mucho, mucho tiempo, empecé a participar el proyecto de Flickr de los 100 Extraños. Al poco tiempo lo abandoné, pero desde que vivo en Barcelona he querido retomarlo… aunque no me gusta referirme a alguien como “extraño”, puede entenderse mal y además quería que fuera algo un poco más allá de preguntarle a una persona cómo se llama y qué hace. Hace poco y por casualidad, me he topado con personas que no conocía con algo especial, así que decidí empezar de nuevo el proyecto y ahora en vez de “extraños” los voy a llamar “geni@s”. No sé cuánto me costará reunir a 100,  pero espero finalizarlo… aquí va el primero de ell@s:

Geni@ 1/100: Enrique, Bilbao.

Íbamos caminando por el Mirador de Artxanda en Bilbao cuando nos dimos cuenta que un señor delante de nosotros nos miraba con curiosidad. Finalmente nos pregunta: ¿de dónde son? Le respondemos que de Venezuela pero que vivimos hace 3 años en Barcelona, a lo que nos hace otra pregunta: ¿me permiten un momento de su tiempo para contarle algunas cosas de mi ciudad? Encantados dijimos que sí y entonces Enrique se dedicó a señalar puntos de la ciudad y alrededores y explicarnos sus historias durante un buen rato. Enrique es de Bilbao, pero hace 20 años vive en Bruselas, donde trabaja en la Comisión Europea. Es fanático del esquí y hace fotos de naturaleza y sus viajes con una cámara Nikon. Luego de presentarnos a sus padres, nos despedimos.

Gracias Enrique, por animarme a comenzar este proyecto.

A long, long time ago, I started to participate in the 100 Strangers Flickr Project. I abandoned it after while but since I’ve been living in Barcelona I wanted to retake it… but I don’t like telling someone “stranger” (in Spanish, you use the same word for stranger and strange) because it could lead to misunderstoods and I also wanted the project to be something more than just asking someone his/her name and what does he/she do. But not so long go and by chance I’ve met with people that I didn’t know but with something special, so I decided to start the project again but instead of calling them “strangers” I’ll call them “geniuses”. I don’t know how long will it take me to gather the 100, but I hope to finish it… here’s the first of them.

Genius 1/100: Enrique, Bilbao.

We were walking at the Artxanda viewpoint in Bilbao when we noticed that a person ahead was staring at us with curiosity. After a while he asked: “where are you from?” So we answered that we’re from Venezuela, but have been living in Barcelona for 3 years… so he asks another question: “would you give some minutes of your time to tell you some things about my city?” Amused, we said yes and then Enrique started to point parts of city and the surroundings and explain their stories for a good time. Enrique is from Bilbao, but he has been living in Brussels for 20 years, working at the European Comission. He’s a skiing fan and he makes nature and travels photos with his Nikon camera. After introducing us to his father and mother, we said goodbye.
